Geometric wire shapes add a modern, sculptural element to your Christmas tree. These eye-catching elegant geometric wire ornaments are surprisingly simple to make and offer endless possibilities for creativity. Let’s explore how to create these minimalist masterpieces.
I love decorating for Christmas. Below are some of my favorite products for decorating.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Thin gauge wire (gold, silver, or copper)
- Wire cutters
- Needle-nose pliers
- Metallic thread (optional)
- Thin ribbon or string for hanging
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Plan your shapes: Decide on the geometric shapes you want to create. Triangles, squares, and hexagons work well.
- Cut the wire: For each shape, cut a piece of wire slightly longer than you need to allow for overlapping at the joints.
- Form the shape: Using your hands and pliers, bend the wire into your chosen geometric shape.
- Secure the joints: Overlap the wire at each corner and use pliers to twist the ends together securely.
- Trim excess wire: Use wire cutters to trim any protruding wire ends, being careful not to leave sharp edges.
- Optional – Add metallic thread: For extra sparkle, wrap sections of your shape with metallic thread.
- Create a hanging loop: Form a small loop at one corner of your shape for hanging.
- Add ribbon: Thread thin ribbon or string through the hanging loop.
Tips:
- Create shapes in various sizes for visual interest.
- Combine different shapes to make more complex ornaments.
- Try mixing wire colors for a unique look.
