While not a traditional hanging ornament, a wooden bead garland adds a lovely, minimalist touch to any Christmas tree. This simple yet effective decoration brings warmth and texture to your holiday decor. Here’s how to create your own wooden bead garland.
I love decorating for Christmas. Below are some of my favorite products for decorating.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Unfinished wooden beads in various sizes
- Thin twine or cotton cord
- Scissors
- Optional: White or metallic paint
- Optional: Small paintbrush
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Prepare your beads: If you’re using paint, lightly paint some or all of your beads and allow them to dry completely.
- Cut your twine: Measure and cut a length of twine about 2 feet longer than you want your finished garland to be.
- Plan your pattern: Arrange your beads in the pattern you want before stringing them. Alternate sizes for visual interest.
- String the beads: Carefully thread your beads onto the twine in your chosen pattern. Leave about 12 inches of twine at each end for hanging.
- Secure the ends: Tie a knot at each end of your beaded section to keep the beads in place.
- Create hanging loops: Use the excess twine at each end to create loops for hanging your garland.
- Adjust and finish: Spread out your beads evenly along the twine, adjusting as needed.
Tips:
- Mix natural and painted beads for a balanced look.
- Create garlands of different lengths to drape around your tree or along a mantel.
- For a cohesive look, match the color of your twine to your beads or tree.
