There’s something magical about light shining through dried citrus slice ornaments. These natural ornaments add a subtle pop of color and a wonderful scent to your minimalist Christmas tree.
I love decorating for Christmas. Below are some of my favorite products for decorating.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Oranges, lemons, or grapefruits
- Sharp knife
- Paper towels
- Baking sheet
- Oven
- Thin ribbon or twine
- Optional: Spices like star anise or cinnamon sticks
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Slice the citrus: Cut your citrus fruits into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Remove seeds: Carefully remove any visible seeds from the slices.
- Pat dry: Use paper towels to remove excess moisture from the slices.
- Arrange for drying: Place the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Dry in oven: Dry the slices in an oven at its lowest setting (usually around 170°F/75°C) for 4-6 hours, flipping occasionally.
- Cool and check: Allow the slices to cool completely. They should be dry and slightly translucent.
- Add hanging ribbon: Carefully thread ribbon or twine through the top of each slice.
Tips:
- Mix different types of citrus for variety in color and size.
- Add spices like star anise or cinnamon sticks for extra visual interest and fragrance.
- These ornaments are also great for garlands or wreaths.
