Minimalist clay disc ornaments offer a perfect blank canvas for design. These delicate yet striking decorations are surprisingly easy to make and can be customized to suit your style. Let’s dive into the process of creating these elegant ornaments.
I love decorating for Christmas. Below are some of my favorite products for decorating.
Materials You’ll Need:
- White air-dry clay
- Rolling pin
- Circular cookie cutters (various sizes)
- Straw or skewer (for making hanging holes)
- Black acrylic paint
- Fine paintbrush
- Thin ribbon or string for hanging
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Prepare the clay: Knead the air-dry clay until it’s soft and pliable.
- Roll out the clay: Using a rolling pin, roll the clay to about 1/4 inch thickness on a smooth surface.
- Cut out circles: Use circular cookie cutters to cut out disc shapes from the clay.
- Create hanging holes: Before the clay dries, use a straw or skewer to poke a small hole near the top of each disc.
- Let them dry: Allow the clay discs to dry completely according to the package instructions (usually 24-48 hours).
- Sand if necessary: Once dry, lightly sand any rough edges for a smooth finish.
- Paint designs: Using black acrylic paint and a fine brush, add minimalist designs to your discs. Think simple lines, dots, or geometric shapes.
- Add hanging ribbon: Thread thin ribbon or string through the holes for hanging.
Tips:
- For a cohesive look, stick to a few simple design elements and repeat them across your ornaments.
- Leave some discs unpainted for a mix of decorated and plain ornaments.
- Experiment with different shades of clay for subtle color variations.
