Macramé adds wonderful texture and a bohemian touch to minimalist Christmas decor. These simple yet elegant ornaments bring a handcrafted feel to your tree. Here’s how to create your own minimalist macramé ornaments.
I love decorating for Christmas. Below are some of my favorite products for decorating.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Thin white macramé cord or cotton string
- Wooden rings (about 2-3 inches in diameter)
- Scissors
- Optional: Wooden beads
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Prepare your cord: Cut 4-6 pieces of macramé cord, each about 24 inches long.
- Attach cords to the ring: Fold each cord in half and use a lark’s head knot to attach it to the wooden ring.
- Start knotting: Begin creating your macramé pattern. For a minimalist look, stick to simple knots like square knots or half-hitch knots.
- Create a geometric shape: As you knot, form a simple geometric shape like a triangle or diamond.
- Add beads (optional): Thread wooden beads onto some of the cords for added interest.
- Trim and finish: Once your design is complete, trim the excess cord, leaving a short fringe if desired.
- Create a hanging loop: Use a piece of cord to create a small loop at the top of the wooden ring for hanging.
Tips:
- Keep your design simple and symmetrical for a truly minimalist look.
- Use different sized wooden rings to create variety in your ornament set.
- Experiment with different knot patterns, but remember that less is more in minimalist design.
